Fresh Cup cover shot - Feb 2013

Title: California Grown Coffee

Fresh Cup Magazine has chosen the photo of Jay Ruskey, owner of Good Land Organics, as the cover shot and story in February's 2013 issue.  Hollywood native, turned progressive farmer, is shown on the front cover with a basket of freshly harvested cherries (grown right on his own farm) with views of the Santa Barbara's coastline in the distance. The photo was taken on a tour which focuses on educating guests about the 'Lifecycle of a Coffee Bean'.  The tour caters to people from all segments of the industry, from barista, consumer to roaster as it is the chance to witness coffee trees and taste ripe cherries without a trip overseas.

Whole Foods write up of: Finger Limes (Caviar Citrus)
Written by Editor •  Friday, 21 December 2012 11:35
"Citrus caviar. That is what finger lime is commonly described as. Slice one of these gherkin look-alikes in half crosswise and gently squeeze, and you will see what I mean. Tiny lime juice filled beads, clear in color or sometimes blushed with pink, will come oozing out, like roe out of a sturgeon's...well, you get the idea."

This past week has been quite an exciting one at Good Land Organics. Last Wednesday, the SCAA Board of Directors held a meeting here at the farm. Just up the road from us, Camp Pull a Shot was taking place and the board members flew in to support the event. We had the chance to serve freshly brewed coffee of both our Caturra and Geisha varietal, gift green beans of each, and take the group on a tour through our coffee fields.

We have received some very positive feedback and are excited to share with you all the cupping scores from Willem Boot, of Boot Coffee and his assitant, Jodi Dowell. Both individuals are registered Q-graders.  The description is that of Willem and Jodi's, the description in parenthesis are from his students. Click the link to read our results:

Tierra Mia Coffee visits Good Land Organics
Written by Editor •  Wednesday, 05 September 2012 09:53
Last week, we had a private tour with the owner of Tierra Mia Coffee and 53 of its employees. Tierra Mia Coffee is a latin-inspired cafe and roastery with five locations in the Los Angeles area. With their focus on quality and crafting the best brew possible, they decided that getting to know the production side of coffee would be a fun employee appreciation and learning day. Thus, last Wednesday - all five of Tierra Mia's cafes were closed and they ventured up to Goleta California for an adventure.
